The Communicable Diseases and Food Safety Team is part of Public Health South's outcome focused team structure.

Communicable Disease and Food Safety Team Outcomes

• Effective internal systems to investigate and manage disease outbreaks
• Reduced incidence and impact of vaccine-preventable diseases
• Reduced incidence and impact of blood-borne viral infections among injecting drug users
• Effective drinking water programme to reduce enteric disease
• Effective investigation and management of biosecurity and incursions
• Effective quarantine management
• Normalising healthy sexual behaviour

The Communicable Disease and Food Safety Team, also holds responsibility for Public Health South's contracts with the New Zealand Food Safety Authority to promote food safety and suitability within Otago and Southand.
