Who are we?
Public Health Nurses are registered nurses who have knowledge, experience and training in child and family health.

What can we offer?

• free confidential services
• health information and advice relevant to your child or young person's growth, development, physical wellbeing and behaviour
• nursing health assessment
• parenting support and advice
• discussion on health service options and referral as appropriate
• school liaison, advocacy and support 
• we work cooperatively with other health and education providers

Where do we work?

• in the community
• in schools
• in training institutions

We can meet with parents/caregivers in the home, at school, at work, or at a venue of your choice. Young people can also meet us at self referral clinics in intermediate, area and some high schools, at community clinics and at other schools by appointment.

• schools and early childhood centres

Who do we work for?

• The Southern District Health Board (SDHB)

In rural areas public health nurses are also available for:

• vision and hearing screening in some schools and early childhood centres
• enhanced youth health services in community clinics - in Oamaru, Alexandra, Cromwell and Baclutha (and some high schools)
