Immunisation is one of the most effective medical interventions to prevent disease. Immunisation uses the body’s natural defence mechanism (the immune response) to build resistance to a specific infection.  When an immunised person comes in contact with that disease in the future, their immune system will respond to prevent them developing the disease. A number of vaccines that can prevent these diseases are included in the National Immunisation Schedule.

In some circumstances, Public Health South can provide vaccinations, such as Influenza and Hepatitis A vaccinations to workplaces and institutions.  If your workplace wishes to offer vaccinations to your employees, please contact:

PHS Dunedin office (03) 476 9800  and ask to speak to the Communicable Disease Nurse.
